Cult writer Mervyn Peake is best loved as the author of the celebrated ‘Gormenghast’ novels, but poetry was also at the centre of his literary activities. To mark the 40th anniversary of Mervyn Peake’s death, Carcanet have published his Collected Poems, which includes previously unpublished verse and drawings. The subjects of his poems range from the fantastical to the everyday. His son, Sebastian Peake, the author of several family memoirs, will be reading a selection of Mervyn’s poems against the backdrop of his father’s famous painting The Glassblower.
