Big Science Read

The Big Science Read campaign, coordinated in association with the Manchester Science Festival, Time to Read and Jodrell Bank (University of Manchester), invites you to explore, re-discover and get excited about science-themed books.

As part of the campaign we are hosting a series of readings, debates and workshops exploring the interaction between literature and science over the second weekend of the festival (24th - 26th October). We invite you to join our line-up of nationally renowned authors, poets and scientists to explore everything from climate change to gene technology. Following the Big Science Read weekend in central Manchester we will also be hosting a series of science-themed events in libraries across Greater Manchester:

River Mersey Water Eperiments at Marple Library on Friday 31st October, 11am and 2pm

Writing workshop with Helen Clare at Walkden Gateway on Thursday 6th November, 2 - 4pm

Tim Birkhead discussing The Wisdom of Birds at Manchester Central Library on Tuesday 11th November, 6.30pm and at Leigh Library on Friday 21st November, 7pm

Chris Turney discussing Ice, Mud and Blood at Tameside Library on Thursday 13th November, 7pm

Michael Boulter discussing Darwin’s Garden at Altrincham Library (2pm) and Failsworth Library (6.30pm) on Wednesday 19th November

Patrick Ness discussing The Knife of Never Letting Go (winner of this year’s Guardian Fiction Award) at Bury Central Library on Saturday 29th November, 1pm
