This was a rare opportunity to experience a live music performance in the magnificent Great Hall of Manchester Central Library. Guitarist and singer-songwriter, Roger Quigley drew inspiration from Flann O'Brien's novel At Swim Two Birds to devise this superb composition evoking the alcohol-blurred vision of early morning. The prevailing theme of the piece was relationships on the brink of collapse and Quigley’s lyrics are characterised by a dark humour. Backed by classically trained cellist Sophia Lockwood, this intimate and profoundly moving performance stayed with the audience long after they'd left.
